The Honey Web

Once upon a time a bear was being mean to a unicorn. The bear was trying to eat her (unicorn).

The unicorn is a pet to a beautiful true princess. The true princess wanted to save her unicorn so she poured honey on a spider web.

The bear was hungry for some honey, and ran to the spider web. He fell on the spider web and then he got stuck.
He says, “Please let me out! Cuz I’m gonna be nice!”
True princess said, “I can’t let you out because you being mean.”

So the true princess threw the bear into the sky, where he is to this day, still caught in the honey web. Only at night can you see the bear, when the golden web glimmers in the dark.

True princess and the unicorn are so happy to be free that they go eat ice cream. The end.

My daughter and I wrote this together… I’m now teaching her how to write poetry with syllables so she can later learn Haiku.

Sista to Sista: A Conversation

“Girl, I always get involved
With them cheatin’ mens
They be tellin’ so many lies
That they wouldn’t know truth
If she was stalkin’ the streets
With a shotgun, ready to pop
I’m cool…
It ain’t happenin’ no more.”

“Naw, you tell ‘im
I’m not gonna call you
I’m not gonna bother you
I’m gonna hold my tongue
For a man who wants to
Feel the warmth of my mouth
On his neck
A man who won’t be lookin’
Left or right
‘Cuz there’s only one way
To my heart.”

“Yea, you right–
He ain’t man enough for
A woman like me
I’m a feisty woman
A very independant female
I ain’t gonna wait on no man
Stop hollerin’
I’m pullin’ up weeds
Can you handle me?”

– Lynn Mari, ⓒ 2008.

Found Poetry is poetry made out of things not meant to be poetry (recipes, conversations, articles, etc). “Sista to Sista” is a poem taken from a conversation, grin, literally sista to sista! This is also based on “Lies and Other Tall Tales” by Zora Neale Hurston, a book that recaptures the folk tradition of telling lies as a form of story telling.

It is a big planet with a ring around it
The ring looks like a giant hula-hoop.
It’s moons are different colors,
there are thirty.

Nora

I will feed you, baby
And you will like the bottles and things
I will hold you, baby
And you will like to sing with me
I will love you, baby
And you will say “goo, goo”
When you always grow big
I still love you.

My Father’s Farm: A Found Poem

My dear friend, and Grandmother to many, Beryl Farland passed from this Earth on March 15, 2006 of a heart attack. The first memory of Beryl I have is how she looked me right in the eye, and said something to the effect of: I Love You. You are a Wonderful Creation of God. Beryl was very passionate about life and through her gentleness and writing she had a way of bringing joy and love to others, especially to children. Beryl was not only a Grandmother to me but took both of my children under the softness of her wing. Beryl loved to go rock hunting, to write poetry and to work in her garden. Beryl was a very graceful woman, whose words were as refined as classical poetry. When she learned I was sick, and that there is no cure for my illness, she worked hard to find other ways to heal myself. I miss her so much. I know Beryl is happy, and exploring majestic crystal caverns or tending a magnificent garden in a peaceful place. My prayers go out to all the friends and family of Beryl Farland, We are one family in our memories and appreciation of her.

To honor Beryl, I have taken a letter she wrote and turned it into a found poem.

I was born in Winnebago County, IA.
Played in the “woods”
many happy hours.
Picked wildflowers,
named the trees,
had my “playhouse” there.
Roped my “house” with twine.

Had a pond there
by digging a hole
and putting a large old can in it
and going to the real pond
to fish out tadpoles and
get them in my pond.
They were my children!

Blessings to you and yours this wonderful season.
Love, B.

PS Don’t know if I ever mentioned it before, but….

The Native Americans
lived on the grounds
before my father
purchased the land
and he and his brother
cleared the land
for their fields.

He found many artifacts -
no wonder I have had such lovely
enchanted days there,
wading in the creek,
picking the dog-toothed violets,
(or shooting stars as I called them)
cow-slips in the marshy areas,
honeysuckle,
and various other “treasures”.

Early in the Spring
I would watch
for the first Dog-toothed violets.
They were always first
and covered the floor of the woods.
What a great, grand sight.
Pick fist fulls of them
and take them into the house.
where my mother
would find a jar
to put them in.
Then she would
set them in the kitchen window.
Lovely memory.

Good Night and Pleasant Dreams.

The only person we can change is ourselves

Filed under: Pinky Swear & POETry: Guest Corner — by graceofwynn @ 5:55 am

“The only person we can change is ourselves by allowing the Divine Healer/Teacher to work in our lives. We were given the Divine Gift “Free Will.” No one can take away this God-given gift as long as we continue to use this gift, we are left to our own devices.

God wants us back out of love not fear. If in our desire to unite with the Divine-All- Oneness, we gladly surrender our will to the will of the Divine,
then we will reside in unity with the Divine-All-Oneness.

Years ago a minister asked me, “what does being a Christian mean to me?”
I said “It allows me the Grace of God to see my shadow side, my own ugliness whether it is in thought, word, or deed.”
It is only by being aware that I can ask for Grace, be transformed and brought into balance. This is truly a gift. Everyday we see people justify their actions from the Words of a Holy Book. As we transform ourselves, our darkness, the light goes out to transform the world.
This is the greatest gift you can give humanity and the planet Earth.”

I Fall to my Knees & Pray: A Villanelle

Struggling with depression, a cyclone has swept me away
Asthma, coughing, dizziness, feelings of being strangled abide
In the throes of survival, I fall to my knees and pray.

Denial is an illusion, a protective game of ego play
I am fragile to damaging intrusion, from the world I hide
Struggling with depression, a cyclone has swept me away.

Pain, despair and internal corruption has led me astray
My brain, body, and soul have begun to divide
In the throes of survival, I fall to my knees and pray.

I am just existing between hope and dismay
Feeling threatened, I summon the Master of Pride
Struggling with depression, a cyclone has swept me away.

I simply can’t and won’t allow the cyclone to spin another day
I seek a healing sabbatical to confront the fear inside
Struggling with depression, a cyclone has swept me away
In the throes of survival, I fall to my knees and pray.

Note: The words are of Katherine’s inspiration. I helped shape this poem into a villanelle.

Holiday Blessing

Today, is the Day, Now is the time,
To live in joy and let your life shine.

Open your heart and do your part,
Let your compassion flow,
Like a love-filled dart,
Sent from the Divine archer’s bow.

We are all “One,”
But humanity has remained undone,
Let your being fill with “Light,”
As you sing the carol “Oh Holy Night.”

In doing this we shall be,
The heaven on Earth we wish to see.
Our hearts shall sing with love,
As we are blessed from above.

Gods love-filled “Lights” we shall become,
Upon the tree of life as “One,”
Peace, Love, & harmony will be the norm.
Our Beautiful Planet shall be free from harm.

Manifesting, “As above so below,”
Holiday Blessings will continue to flow,
Long after the ground is free from snow.

Journey of the Soul

Filed under: Pinky Swear & POETry: Guest Corner — by graceofwynn @ 4:34 am

Remembering Through–

The Journey of Soul during meditative state
Body relaxed, subsconscious awake
Secrets of mind and creative link to reality
Powers through the Divine, never finality

Soaring in that sacred space
Remembering knowledge gained for all Earth’s grace
Raising many through works of soul and heart
A true calling, a sacred spiritual art

All received from the unseen to you
Reminding that there is much here to do
A teacher, healer, may be much more
Leading multitudes to and through their journey’s door

Have true intent, focusing love, to be most receptive
As a receiver for those to gain new perspective
Speak the Language of Light for others to receive
Messages of healing, embracing the old; then release to relieve

So when on the meditative journey in that space this night
Be open in trust, as you receive wisdom and insight in the Light
The Sacred Light and Love, messengers from above
Are descending upon you as the precious symbolic dove

Ignore murmurings of the unenlightened ones
The seeds have been planted for when their time comes
The more that’s been given, the more that is required
There is more to the picture; look at what’s transpired

Seek not for self glory as more is given
In the human body, balance all things; life is for livin’
You will fast become all you truly are
By listening to your inner knowing; dare to go far

Fear not to go where you’ve been away from for so long
Through the process, you are becoming an eternal sacred song
Stay true to yourself in all you say and do
You’ll always receive what’s needed for you

The quest is a Glorious one
You are One with ALL THAT IS
Keep having fun! (although challenging at times)

You are God’s Gift

You are God’s Gift, touching each heart
Mirroring issues through awareness; processing to impart
Deep appreciation for healing had, releasing stored pain
Letting go of unnecessary issues, for life to regain

From heights of Being, gratitude can be expressed
For opening hearts to love; no longer repressed
Dark Nights of the Soul has visited time and again
Rendering feelings and thoughts as to how it will all end

The inner knowing comes forth with undeniable assurance
“This too shall pass” and is always worth the endurance
Deeper wisdom, compassion, and strength comes with each shift
Leaving the Heart full of love’s essence; a Divine Gift

You are God’s Gift, helping others to remember anew
Who they Truly Are; refreshed with clearer view
As the heart is held open, the more love there is to be embraced
Sharing this love with others so their pain, too, may be erased

In relationships, you’ve had courage to face each as a mirror
In continuing the process, the veil will grow sheer
The Transformational Power of Love is authentically real
Validating God’s Gift of You upon other’s Soul to seal

You Are God’s Gift
